skin to sk1n is a performance and media installation that posts/performs the feeling of being at odds with the objectification and alteration of one’s body. The witness being the third party viewer scrolling/strolling past. Skin is a point of self perception and visage of vulnerability, in a constant state of evolution. It is subject to expectations based on popular cultural norms tied to cis-gendered stereotypes, AI and digitally edited idealisms. Queerness bears an inherent load of emotional labor that is intensified by having an online presence, ensuing in both comfort and discomfort. The process of this work reflects this response; using undulating steps to abstract the skin from the body, capture it on 35mm film, transform it through node-based editing, and shape it into a projection mapped video back onto the body.
